Hector Morales

The Peruvian drummer/percussionist and composer Héctor Morales posses the unique sensibility and knowledge that allows him to successfully blend in his playing as well as in his compositions the sounds and rhythms of such diverse musical traditions as the Afro-Peruvian, Middle Eastern, Cuban and Jazz.

Hector has played and studied Afro-Peruvian music with such masters of the style as Julio “Chocolate” Algendones, Marcos Campos and Carlos Hayre, he later studied Jazz at the prestigious “William Paterson University Jazz Program” in NJ, from where he graduated in 2003. Currently he continues his education by performing and studying with musicians of different ethnic musical backgrounds who live in the New York area.

Mr. Morales has performed on important stages of Perú, Chile and the U.S.A. such as the National Museum of Perú, GOETHE Institute, “Festival del Huaso” (Chile), “Society of Musicians and Composers of Chile Auditorium”, Trumpets, Luna Stage, Detour, Satalla, Barnes Institute and Columbia University among others. He has also been featured with the Afro-Peruvian group “Cambalache Negro” in a video produced by LP (Latin Percussion).

Héctor Morales is currently performing in the New York area with “Maestro” of Afro-Peruvian music Carlos Hayre, legendary director and composer Chico Mendoza’s Latin Jazz Ensemble, the Afro-Cuban band “Quindembo”, the Middle Eastern fusion group “Shusmo” and as the leader of his own fusion group “Afrodita”.
